Description

I am have a deep rooted love of stripes, but can never find a material with the right stripe frequency( if that makes sense?) So I set about manipulating some fabric to create black bands of varying thickness in the skirt. No pattern, just a knee length rectangle of material a thick elastic waistband, and I simply stretched the elastic as I sewed to the material giving a ruching finish. I then wrapped it around myself to make sure the volume was right then sewed the two ends together. A little tight getting it over the hips, but if it means I can avoid zippers then I am a happy woman :)

Super cute and I love what you did with the fabric to make the darker bands. I agree with the zipper comment as I often opt for elastic as well! Great job :)

This is super fabulous! Like you, I have an obsession with b&w stripes and I also made myself a black&white striped dress, by sewing strips of white and black fabric together. I really like your skirt.

looks great. Did you pleat the fabric so it would stripe the way you wanted?

OMG! you created those stripes!? I think their frequency is so perfect, I am a lover of stripes too, and have the same issue with finding striped yet interesting fabric. Did you cut the bands out yourself?? and sew each one on? If so Bravo, that takes some serious patience and desire!

Hello Gina, Thanks for your comment! In the end I bought the striped material. But it was thing stripes all over, I pleated the black bands together until I got the thickness I wanted. On the lower part of the skirt you can see thin stripes of the white peaking through were I misjudged it.

I see, still that takes so much patience and serious willingness! I absolutely love the outcome
