naked and awkward sorbetto

Added Oct 7, 2012

Wollongong, Aust...

Another sorbetto made from Colette Patterns free pattern download: The Sorbetto Top , this time with flutter bell sleeves. My first sorbetto had little lace sleeves: Sorbetto with lace cap sleeves

I spotted this dreamy feather-covered nude chiffon at Spotlight a while back but didn’t buy it as I had a few sewing projects lined up at the time. Next thing I knew, it was in with the clearance fabrics and at $6.00 a metre, how could I resist? I thought it would be ideal for a sorbetto with some sort of sleeve. In all my excitement about grabbing a bargain and thinking up sleeve variations, I completely neglected my usual routine of holding up the bolt of fabric in front of my body, in front of the mirror. Big mistake – the nude shade against my skin-tone really does make me look naked! awkward

I drafted the bell sleeve with assistance from My Measuring Tape’s Blog Adapting a Basic Sleeve
I decided to cut the sleeve on the bias to allow the floaty chiffon to drape better. The pattern was easy to use and pattern instructions easy to follow. There are just two pattern pieces, bust darts, a box pleat detail down the front midline and no fiddly closures! The neckline, armscye and all inside seams are finished with self-made bias tape.

Material Notes

Retro printed ‘linen feather’ polyester chiffon, 144cm wide ($6.00/metre, Spotlight clearance bin); thread

I’m in agreement here with everyone else. It looks gorgeous on you and I love the sleeve adaptation! Your photos are also fantastic, which is often so helpful when choosing what to make next!

I don’t think it looks awkward at all! This top is beautiful… But if you feel awkward wearing it, maybe you can wear a dark tank top underneath and then it will look darker too :)
