My Halloween 2010

Long Beach, Cali...

Me and my bf decided to dress up as Marie Antoinette and her favorite macaroni friend (wiki the meaning if you need to) for halloween. I used burda patterns that I purchased at Michael Levine’s and scoured the garment district for the right fabrics, notions, etc. I finished all the garments, found all the details like jewelry, hair accessories, make-up etc, in two weeks… it was a relentless labor of love! I was very inspired by Sophia Coppola’s imaging of Marie Antoinette and decided to set our costumes in a tweaked nod to the movie and era, even down to our wearing chucks. We had a lot of fun :)

Material Notes

Marie Antoinette – Burda Pattern #2447. Embroidered Silk for over skirt and top with satin silk for underskirt and top. Pink cotton voile ruffles i cut on the bias and ruffled by hand, I also made the panniers underneath out of muslin and steel boning.

18th Century Macaroni – Burda Pattern #2459. Jacquard coat with hot pink feather appliques at shoulders. Grey Jacquard vest. Hot pink velour pants.

Blends, Silk, Velvet
