My Burda Twisted Top

Added Jul 12, 2013

Birmingham, Unit...

Double layer top with a twist at the shoulder.

I used a fine white jersey, but found as it is double layered you could see the under layer & it crinckled so you could see it…SO… I decided to trim down the under layer to waist length….. Only to find out I twisted the shoulders the wrong way :( Good news is love the layered effect :) I did wonder why I couldnt get it to look right!

I overlocked all edges & did a long straight stitch on both hems.

I have been sewing “easy” patterns for a while now but wouldnt call this a Novice pattern at all….. attatching the shoulders reminded me of learning to put a lining to a jacket.

Material Notes

I like it in the white with the double layer effect. Perfect!!! I have made this particular project 3 times now and I avoided the center seams each time. I really don’t think it needs that. I consider myself a beginner sewer and I struggled a little with this pattern but I thought it was just because I was doing it from an Italian sewing magazine and my Italian is still a newbie. LOL

Thank you for your comments. It was after I saw you fab versions that I bought & downloaded this pattern… :) Yeah I didnt see any reason for the centre seams… extra work & would alter the “simple” design of the top… Now I have worked out how to do the twist Im going to make a maxi dress version too

Is this tthe top 103 from the July magazine? If so, I really like that you did not do the center seam like the pattern suggests. (And which I don’t understand, by the way).

Yes I did look and liked this pattern but thought it would not be an easy one to make for a beginner like me- May wait until my skills get better ;) thank you for posting S.
