Mountain Forest Dress

I graded the pattern to make it a US size 3T since there wasn’t another pattern with the dress style I was looking for in the right size range. I also made some minor changes such as only putting buttons on the back yoke and cutting the skirt back as one full piece. (I figure a nearly 3-year old can be dressed without a fully open back.) This changed how the yoke and skirt are sewn together so I didn’t end up following the pattern instructions. I also wanted to have the raw edge of the skirt to be on the outside as a decorative element which required putting the wrong side of the skirt pieces on the right side of the yoke and then topstitching the pieces together. I really like how this turned out but I don’t think it would work with a woven fabric.

The Organic Cotton Knit Ultra was a challenge to sew because it is really dense. It’s wonderfully soft to the touch and it can handle machine washing and drying but I’m not sure I will order this fabric again for apparel. However, I might try woven cotton next time because the prints by Nouveau Bohemian are really beautiful!
