This is a dress I made to wear on mother’s day this year. Well, it’s been way too cold for it and it took over a month for me to brave the weather and wear it.

For the bodice I used this burdastyle pattern: Gathered Top 05/2013 #104B, and added a 10cm waistband and a very basic gathered skirt.

I must confess this was an accident that turned out wearable. I originally meant for a high waist and knee high skirt, but as it turns out the fabric is super stretchy and heavy, so by the time I was done sewing all pieces together, I had a drop waist, slightly resembling the 20s, which surprisingly, I really liked. Yeah, I know you are laughing, that’s ok ;)

Material Notes

Polyester stretch woven.

This is super cute. Very flapper — which is very “in” right now. Good work!

I absolutely adore this dress! I love the stripes – and usually I’m wary of them (maybe because matching them up is such a pain? When stripes don’t work out… it can be catastrophic!) But I love this! the drop-waist band, the fit – what an outstanding accident! It’s unique and fun yet the black and white stripes and clean lines keep it classic. And it looks SERIOUSLY comfortable! Dress it up with some jewelry or heels, or throw on flip flops… ok, it’s cheesy, but – the dress has all the qualities of a good mom! Versatile, utilitarian, comfortable, fun, always ready for whatever life brings you – or takes you – it’s definitely a metaphorical dress! Great job!
