modrotisk skirt

Benesov, Czech R...

A skirt I´ve been working on, pattern Burda 8090/Michelle. This skirt is made out of traditonal czech fabric, called “modrotisk” (blue-print), which is still made the way it was made hundrets years ago: at first, there is the pattern printed on white fabric with a liquid that doesen´t catch colour, than the fabric is dyed in indigo, several times (simply explained). The fabric is printed with beautiful old wooden forms, the small dots you see are made with tiny nail-heads (if that makes sense), you can see picture of the form here. The fabric is so beautiful; I ordered it from a company which makes many many different variations of the smaller flower pattern, which you can combine with the border pattern (if you want). There are so many combinations possible. Considering the amount of time and work included, the fabric was not expensive at all… just like in a normal shop. This post follows this post, where I made a child version with a similar fabric. I love national folk costumes lately, and I like the idea of wearing it, in a modern way. The red tights you see are also inspired by czech folk costumes, I´ve owned them for a while.
The skirt pattern I used is cute and easy. I had to do the lining too, as the outer fabric is a bit see-through. My first invisible zipper! Maybe not the most invisible zipper in the world, but it´s ok I think :).

Material Notes

modrotisk fabric (indigo dyed), cotton lining, invisible zipper

Garment Type
Bohemian, Ethnic

Super!

díky! doporučuji vyzkoušet, je to docela zážitek, vybrat si látku a nechat si ji potisknout přesně podle přání :)

Hi Nahoko, thank you for your sweet comment! I odered this fabric online, because there is bigger choice and it´s more comfortable for me… however I think it´s possible to buy this fabric also in normal shop in Prague, there are shops called “Manufaktura”, where I´ve seen them. They sell mainly wooden and handmade goods, cosmetics… But, the fabric they sell is without the nice border print… I´ve seen this only in the e-shop (link above). Hope you´re lucky!
