Modcloth Handmade Contest - Vinyl Wallet

My mom really wanted a wallet for Christmas, but she was fairly specific about what specs it needed to have, so rather than search for one, I made it. That way I’m sure she’ll like it!

This was definitely not an easy undertaking and it took a lot of measuring and marking but I’m very happy with the results! I ended up making a matching cosmetic case with the left over material too.

The wallet is made from vinyl and printed cotton. It has slots for 12 cards, two compartments for bills, a zippered pocket for change, and plenty of interior room for your check book which I’m sure is being held with Modcloths cute checkbook holder!

Crap, I keep accidentally marking posts as inappropriate while trying to reply to them! I’d be glad to help with wallet advice! If you’re lining with with quilting weight cotton I’d say you’ll be fine like I was. I think if you doubled up on vinyl or used cardstock on the whole thing you’d find it was too stiff like I did. It makes for a bulky wallet.

These wallets of yours are amazing!!

It’s good to see someone’s popped one up here – I started trying to design / make one for my sister about a year ago, but got stuck with the concept, I suppose – I was / am making it out of softer fabric though…

So, do you just use cardstock for stiffening the sections? – Is it that ‘simple’ ?

Actually, when I bought the vinyl it was thinner than i imagined so I thought I was going to have to use it for the whole thing and then sort of cover it in fabric, but I ended up only needing it for the exterior and I used it on the middle divider for extra stability.

Oh! Okay! This sounds like some good inspiration :-) might hop to (soon) and attempt to finish my version! I would never have thought of cardstock – I was originally thinking the base from “green bags” (thin stiff-ish plastic)… but didn’t actually know where to buy it! Will probably come back to you for advice (if you don’t mind?!)
