My take on the Pleated Dress

I have so much fabric and making the choice what would be best for this style, (still not sure if I made the right call) hmmm.. Still pondering over it!

Suggested fabrics were Taffeta and since I have a few meters of a beautiful emerald green thought that would work ok. I generally drape fabric on myself or my dress form to get a bit of an idea how will look. Taffeta can tend to look dressy or formal. Wasn’t the look I was after?

I made a bit of a mash up with a few swatches and used the illustration to show how my options looked, suffice to say, this is it! I love blocking at the best of times.

I’ve forgotten where I picked this original Nude/Tree print fabric from. I’m not entirely sure what the fabric even is, feels like waterproof raincoat material. Mixing both taffeta and my nude fabric together didn’t give me great sewing pleasure (very stiff, no give at all). I am a glutton for punishment. I have a bit of both fabrics leftover to make a reversible jacket. Pity I haven’t finished it in time to upload pics with my dress.

I made a belt with a vintage buckle, colour match is pretty close.

So annoyed. I’ve edited my summary and since doing this the font has change, I can’t seem to change it. Any ideas?

I love the tree fabric – it’s great. And the idea for placing your fabric on the drawing is great – I’ll use that in future so thanks for sharing. Good luck :)

I could of gone with so many combos with the swatch drawing, still not sure of the end result. Thanks and good luck to you also. I am a sucker for polkadots!

I think it’s so interesting how different they all look and all the different ideas. I love color blocking and this dress does seem perfect for it. I’ll definitely do a long sleeve version too!

I like your “mock-up” of the dress on paper beforehand, using the pattern’s graphical drawing.
