Member Model Challenge: Pleated Designer Dress

Added May 19, 2014

Austin, Texas, U...

This is my entry for the “Member Model Challenge: Pleated Designer Dress”. I like the pattern’s shape and seams and pleats placement and want to showcase it with a striped fabric. The fabric is a 50/50 cotton/polyester, with some body and reasonably wrinkle-resistant. I want to de-emphasize my shoulders so I lay out the patterns pieces so the stripes of the side front pieces run up & in and add a side back piece, changing the back dart into a princess seam. I also want to emphasize my hip: the skirt’s stripes run horizontally. I also added a “waistband” and match the stripes accordingly so they’d form a chevron pattern at center front and center back.
I have more more details and photos on my blog.

I love your dress and thought you’d get in the top three. Anyway – you have at least given me a lot of inspiration for using stripes that I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise. :)

And yes, I hope they don’t think I altered the design a bit too much!

This looks fab. Not sure if it is just my computer though – but the photos look a little squashed when you click to try and enlarge them. You can see the image fine on the small thumbnail but then it kind of distorts on the larger pic. (It might just be my side though so maybe check). Good luck in the competition too!

Yes this happens to me occasionally too. It rights itself when you click on “view all” though

Thanks for the advice Deanna – perfect now.

And this is an amazing use of fabric on the bias. Absolutely love it now I can see the details. Great work!

I see that same problem. Thanks for pointing it out. I’m pretty sure everybody sees the same thing. The “add a project” page on here is a bit… challenged as far as functionality! I have never been able to get it to upload larger images with better resolution, such as the ones in this project (and most other projects, it seems): http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/everlasting-spring

Funnily enough Anna I’m on my tablet computer now and the pics are fine. I agree the project page is a bit problematic! I’d love to be able to move the pictures around into an order you’re happy with after uploading but it’s not possible (you can do that on Ravelery for knitting). This is a gorgeous dress though and a really clever manipulation of the stripes!
