Description

The Meaty Treats Apron was a handmade gift for my dad’s birthday. I first sewed the apron up, using heavy, navy colored linen and cotton bias tape for structure. I loosely based my apron on a project from Needle Book (listed below in the credits). I eventually ended up tracing the shape of my boyfriend’s apron, adding 5/8" for the seam allowance. The linen was so, so nice to sew up but was perhaps not the best choice for an apron that might get a lot of usage.

Once the apron was sewn I hand embroidered images from Sublime Stitching’s Meaty Treats series. Because the fabric was so dark, I had to hand draw the images onto the linen using as soapstone pen. For aesthetics sake, I also enlarged all of the designs (accept for the little steaks and burgers at the bottom). This was my first embroidery project and being rather eager and adventurous, I did not really take into account the amount of time the embroidery would call for (especially for a beginner). In the end the embroideries look awesome because they are so large (it’s definitely a quirky apron) but they were a real project to do in one week’s time! (hence the smaller treats at the bottom) :)

(I should also note that I embroidered the pockets with the ham and bacon before I sewed them onto the apron.)
