Linen Knot Front Dress

Burda Style 3/2012 # 108
This was such an easy dress to make, mainly because I read everyone’s description and picked up a few handy hints. I did not add a zip as I am able to slip this on quite easily. This will be a all season dress for me here in Brisbane. We don’t have really cold winters and a plain white T-shirt under this looks really nice and will keep me warm enough most days.

Material Notes

Linen and cotton lawn lining.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter

Thank-you. I thought I might take it on holiday with me to Europe next week but I think it is going to be hard work keeping it pressed and not looking like I just got out of bed wearing it. But I too love linen for it’s coolness. How do the Italians always look so neat in linen I wonder??

I would suspect lots of dry cleaning! : )

Yes, you are probably right about dry cleaning.

wow, look at this, it is fantastic! Our Duchess of Cambridgeshire prefers the knot dress pattern, only from jersey. I love linen, it is great!

Thanks Irina. I am going to make the knot dress in jersey, but I will have to somehow lift the neck line as it is a bit low for me. I have been wearing this dress with a white T-shirt underneath. I hope you had a wonderful time at all of your Jubilee functions. We all watched the pomp and splendor of it all on TV down here in the colonies and loved every minute of it. I hope you weren’t caught out in that awful rain in your lovely jubilee outfit. I loved all the outfits that Kate, Duchess of Cambridge wore. She is so elegant and sophisticated.

Linen was the perfect choice for this dress, it is so simple and yet so chic. Wonderful job! and it always feels good to get away without adding a zip :)

Thanks cambra for your kind comments. I often sew up side seams in a basting stitch to see if I need a zip. I have no problem putting in a zip but why put one in if you really don’t need to!!

Thanks Andrew. It isn’t hard to make this dress and I think it suits most soft knit or woven fabrics.

Thanks so much for your super sweet comments. Your knot dress really inspired me too and I would love to make one in broderie anglais like you did.

I was wondering how this dress would make up in a different fabric. And how delighted I am to see it work so beautifully in my favourite linen! Lovely job Schnui!

Thanks Janene. Yes, it seems to work in all sorts of fabrics and as I have written, the zip insertion was not necessary. A bonus!!!

Merche, you inspired me to make this dress in a woven fabric rather than a knit and your blog was helpful too. I was so glad that I didn’t need to sew in a zip as the dress slipped on quite easily.

The dress looks great in this unicolor fabric, the knot shows better!
