Like Boden, but Better!

Minneapolis, Uni...

While browsing through the Boden spring catalog, I saw a skirt that I really wanted. With a $128 price tag, I didn’t want it bad enough to buy it. I decided to set about making an exact copy, but somewhere along the way I thought that it would be better if I replaced the embroidered flowers with little nautical motifs.

The skirt was made using the dirndl skirt from the Cambi pattern. I modified it by reducing the fullness just a bit to give my skirt the exact measurements of the one featured in the catalog.

Material Notes

Navy and white seersucker, cotton voile, rayon hem tape.

Amazing skirt from seersucker fabric! Want one now….The cotton voile is the under layer, correct? Just curious if the under layer stays down and does not bunch up under the seersucker layer. The nautical motifs add whimsy and interest-the motifs are from an embroidery machine pattern?

Yes, the cotton voile is the under layer and it does lay close to my body without bunching up. (I did give it a 2 inch hem to give it more weight, so that also helps it stay put). I found the images from pinterest – I think one came from a coloring book page and the others might have been a machine quilting or embroidery template. Anyway, I just printed off the images and hand embroidered. I changed them slightly so it wouldn’t be a direct copy.
