Liberty Bow Shirt

I have had this Liberty fabric in my stash for about 18 months before deciding on Burda #135, 2/2013 to make it up in. This pattern is simple and elegant and deserving of my Liberty. I treat Liberty like the Goddess of all fabric as it is so lovely to cut, sew and wear and I want it to last for years; therefore I agonize over the pattern I will eventually use. I never even throw out the scraps as I will use them later for a patchwork project or a trim for something. It is too precious!! I did not have enough fabric to make long sleeves so I cut them short and I added back darts found on the line markings for dress #136 which gave the shirt a nice shape for me. I also changed the way you added the bias edge for the neckline and sleeve edges. The instructions did not tell you to turn under the bias edges and I didn’t want to leave them raw. So I used my Clover 18mm bias maker cutting the bias strips 3.8mm wide to make a beautifully neat bias edge for this top. see the photo below. This is a very elegant and simple shirt and not only great for plain fabric as Burda has used but for a heavily patterned fabric as my Liberty.

Of course you chose the perfect pattern to showcase this beauty! I must go to the Liberty shop when I’m in London, and bring the salts too, I. suspect the fabrics are very expensive! Love

You are very sweet Merche. Thank- you. I would love to go to the Liberty shop in London, one day too. They have a good online shop but there is nothing like touching and feeling fabric. I hope you get there very soon.

Thanks Mary for your comment. Have a look at a few tutorials about using the bias maker and follow the instructions for the width of the cut bias strips and then you will love it. I have 4 different sizes and they are so handy and an investment really.
