Looking for athletic wear patterns that can really be worn while exercising, I was both excited and skeptical to see Burda’s Footed Leggings with a couple of unusual features…. footed pieces, which I deleted as I do not need, and an overlapping high-waisted waistband with no elastic. Love high-waisted waistbands in leggings…. but no elastic? Would they stay up? Would they be wearable? Yes, Yes, and Yes….. but only if you chose the proper stretch fabric. I’ve made 3 pairs to-date and learned a lot about stretch fabrics along the way. Lots more info written at the blog, but in a nutshell….. there is evidently no definitive meaning in the sewing world between a 1-way/2-way stretch and a 2-way/4-way stretch. So depending on what pattern company you are using, could determine which type of stretch fabric they really mean. Burda recommends a 2-way stretch fabric for these leggings, and a 2-way stretch fabric, to me, means simply a stretch across the cross-grain so that’s what I did for the first pair producing a pair that rode down in the back every time you bent down. Both annoying and unwearable. A 4-way stretch fabric, to me, means stretch both across the cross-grain, and across the lengthwise grain. So when I used a (to me) 4-way stretch knit fabric these pants were perfectly, perfect. No riding down, the leggings move with you. The fabric stretched both across the cross-grain and across the length-grain. Very important. Used my Bernina 1230’s decorative stitch #10 to top-stitch on most all the seams giving these leggings a very cool ready-to-wear look. This light gray pair was shortened 4" with a 1" hem to hit above my ankle. I’m 5’7" tall. This is a very well-drafted leggings pattern. Anyway, lots more photos and info at the blog for those interested.

This is one of my June 2018 Burda Challenge Projects Hope to have another completed before month’s end. #burdachallenge2018

I like the top-stiching, it looks very nice. I need some of these leggings too…

It’s a super quick sew. The top-stitching was the most time-consuming part. Thank you! :)
