Wrap Shorts – Burdastyle 06/2014 #124

These ‘leather look’ envelope shorts were fairly straight forward; I made them in one size up. The sheet of brown synthetic leather, or rather vinyl lol, I found for $2 in the thrift store. When it came to the stitching I used paper clips instead of pins to avoid leaving holes in visible areas. Things got a little too thick to get the machine needle through in places, namely the waistband and at the side seams, so I did a bit of hand stitching and even super-gluing. I lined the inside and main part of the shorts using a vintage gold lining scrap from my stash, to hide the white underside of the vinyl, but the two front flaps for the fake skirt I left unlined. All edge seams are just stitched straight down on top of the lining lolz. The zip is definitely not an invisible zip, I just used a mustard color metal vintage zip from my supplies. Location: St Mary’s Bay

Material Notes

ruby-brown artificial vinyl-leather (interlace backing); 70s materials: gold satin lining, soft canvas (as waistband facing), mustard color metal zip

These shorts feel extremely warm even hot on, seeing as it is summer right now. The nature of this pressed synthetic material (hopefully its not unhealthy/toxic to wear, as opposed to organic fabrics or real leather!) is slightly rigid, yet they’re comfortable and hard wearing. The side zip can open up if I breathe with my stomach lol, so later on I will add a metal clasp at the top of it. I was trying to get a hip urban look lol

I have to say they have a hot pnats feel. I use to have hot pants with sailor buttons on them in the 90’s. I would never think to do them in this material. They look hot!
