I was just thinking of something similar, then I found this project, originally by jdsaro, I liked it and I made it.
I altered my version a bit; it has different dimensions suitable for a 17" laptop. Also, I didn’t use any fusible interfacing, since I used thick lining for greater protection. Maybe I’ll add a zipper too, but for now it is done, I love it and I thank jdsaro for a great idea and detailed instructions!

Material Notes

exterior: corduroy; interior: thick lining made of synthetic fabric, quilted, with smooth surface and multiple lower layers, usually used for jackets

    hello everyone! =]

I’m a little confused about the step where you insert the exterior fabric into the lining, sew the two top edges together.. then flip it right side out through the 2 inch hole. I know it says insert with right sides facing.. but which sides is it referring to? Is it the right sides of the exterior fabric facing the right side of the lining fabric? or.. just referring to one of the fabrics?

so make it, it’s simple. the only problem is that you’ll have to make several pieces, one for your cousin, one for sister in law… ;)

I love this! I have been looking for something simple to protect my 17" apple laptop. Retailers seem to only carry items for 15" and smaller laptops. I’m so going to make this!! Thanks for the idea.
