I was sooo looking forward to making this top when I saw it in March 2012 Burda mag, (no.121B) and when I saw it was supposedly straightforward to make I was even happier! Turned out to be a bit less straightforward than I’d hoped as I couldn’t follow the instructions for the back facing on the neckline, but with some help from fellow Burda site members and some searching on the internet I worked out a way to do it and am pretty pleased with the finished result.

I learnt how to use stay tape for the first time on this one and I think it makes a real difference for keeping the shoulders + front facing in shape :-)

Would almost certainly make it again as it’s super comfy to wear and now I know what I’m doing with the facing it would actually be a really quick project to sew up. I’ve put it as “intermediate” only because of the trouble with the facing.

I made it with some left over stretch lace + jersey fabrics that I had in my stash.

Material Notes

stretch lace + jersey

Garment Type
Knits/Jersey, Lace/Sequins

Its beautiful and I’m sure that’s a lot to do with the fabrics you chose. The ties drape beautifully.

I loved your interpretation! I shall definitely try to do one for myself as well. I actually just finished a similar project – burda pattern skirt decorated with lace :)

those lace sleeves are great!!….I do concur with your frustrations on this one though :) took forever to work out what the heck was going on with that neck edge. Also I think I’d face the fronts if I made this again.

Stupid neck facings!! (or at least, stupid instructions for neck facings!!). Did you finish yours in the end? I’ll check out your projects in a bit and see.

Thankyou! It’s a really nice design, just be warned, the instructions aren’t the best to follow for the facings.
