Koalas? Bears? Koala Bears.

Melbourne, Austr...

In the heart of Melbourne, a decrepit, musty little shop called Job Warehouse stands, operating since the 1950s. The finds in there might surprise you, and I’m not necessarily talking about the fabric.

I’m talking about the insect that flew out of a wet fold of fabric.
And the dust.
And the coughing.
But there’s vintage fabric in there for cheap, so, who cares!

On my recent expedition, I purchased a cute little cotton print for $5/pm, featuring what I thought were little bears parachuting across a bright blue sky. When I laid out the fabric to cut, I noticed the bears’ noses. Noses! Koala noses! But seeing as orange koalas don’t exist, I think I will call them (very politically incorrectly) “koala bears”.

This is another Simplicity 3823. I made View B this time, and made no particular changes to the pattern. I adore how it turned out! And with a petticoat underneath this makes the perfect rockabilly style pattern widely available. (However if you know of any apart from the obvious ones, please tell me, I’m always looking!)

Now, unfortunately I only remembered the petticoat once I’d finished happy-snapping, so unfortunately I can only offer you a shoddy webcam photo. But trust me! It totally works.

Also! If anyone out there is looking for high quality petticoats, I have about a dozen that I have to get rid of.

More on my blog as usual. I’d give you a direct link, but according to the internet, my individual post pages do not exist.

Awesome dress! Very good story about the store. I have a similar store in NY where I buy my fabrics. I can relate ;)

Great dress made with great fabric!! I travel to Melbourne occasionally and would love to know if Job Warehouse sells old lace?? Your fabric was a great find, so maybe I could find a treasure trove of lace.

Haha well it is definitely a very interesting store! They might, personally I just look at cottons as my patience for sewing tends to depend on what fabric I’m using!

They’re on Bourke street, up near Spring street next time you’re down this way!
