New York, New Yo...

Our fun, simple Kathrine dress is easy to sew and easy to wear. We love the fitted back with pleat and the full, loose movement in the front. Have fun accessorizing it, perhaps with multiple, brightly colored silk sashes, trendy bow ties, or piles of chunky necklaces. Next week, we’ll post the Plus Size of this dress, which we adjusted to better accommodate the plus figure.

Material Notes

We used a beautiful wool suiting material for the dress, and we couldn’t decide which color of the silk charmeuse we liked better for the sash, so we made both! And for the little button at the center back, we wanted it to be invisible, so we used a crochet loop, and put a small button on the inside of the dress. You can also put a crochet loop on your sash, and attach it to the dress via the same button.

I am a plus size and I think that this dress might work for me. The back is fitted so the front flows, and for me, it is my stomach I’d like to hide. With the fitted back, it’s not exactly a “tent”. As long as it isn’t made overly large, I think it could look nice made to the smallest size without it being tight :)

can’t see this working as a plus size. far too flappy and not in the least bit flattering.

Screams for a belt, but I love it. I would make it in a silk taffeta, maybe deep purple or something. Love the name of it too!!!

Cute dress! It is tent like, but I think that is modern now and a waist tie could add definition. I also think it would be cute as a top.

If anyone buys the pattern and alterations are being made on it, can the altered pattern be posted for free?

Hi Dressdummy, I can’t believe you are making 8 for our fund raiser! That is such great news, I am so excited! Anek, I would love to see a how to showing how to alter the Lydia into a dress! That would be great!

I think it will make a cool fun summer dress. You can use any cottons for it. Think of using a floral cotton, very pretty sun dress. I wouldn’t want to add more detail, except maybe for built in pockets in the side seams.

I like this dress, but it’s super easy to recreate using the lydia pattern.

the pleats at the neckline are really gorgeous, but i feel like the rest of the dress is just “blah”. its very loose and tent-like, which doesn’t flatter any body type; i wish you guys had made a defined waist! as for the back, it just isn’t my taste, sorry.

meh. maybe a diff fabric would have worked better. i don’t think it looks good at all from behind. i agree with sunnyb64, it screams for for a waist.

Heehee— I think the lighting is playing tricks with my eyes, because my first thought was, “A leather tent dress?! Really?!!!” I’ve figured it out now though- cute dress for summer :)

Timeless simplicity. I really like this little dress! I love that you showed how great it looks with the unexpected ties and sashes (some of us need help accessorizing, so it’s nice that you’ve planted the seed:). I also REALLY LOVE THAT YOU’RE PLUGGING THE PINK & BLACK BOW TIES FOR THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY FUND RAISER by placing them on this model. I’m making at least 8 altogether for the fund raiser, and after seeing bow ties with this dress, I might have to make a few for myself this summer:)

The pleats are cute— I think I’d put the sashes around my waist instead of my neck, though.
