Jacket for all occasions a.k.a My first jacket

Added Sep 13, 2015

My mama always say:“Life is like a box of chocolates…”, nah! not really…But she did say that a jacket is the hardest type of garment to sew. I’ve been a bit nervous when I started this project, the fabric was thicker than what I’m used to and it was nice warm wool so I really didn’t want to damage it.
But that same fabric proved so easy to work with as it’s not stretchy and slightly towards boucle so it didn’t slide around either.
The result is a nice autumn and spring jacket that I’m in love with and have already used happily with jeans and over a dress in a wedding (as you see in the photos)
The wedding was in Bremanger in west Norway and those photos are taken by me close friend Kris.
The dress I’m wearing is the first thing I ever made myself, you can take a closer look here :)

Material Notes

I used a nice expensive wool (98% if not 100%, can’t remember). And lined it with standard (but sturdy) polyester.

Thank you so much! Well sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t :) I just never worried too much about screwing up, in the end you learn from it and the worst that can happen is that a nice bit of fabric ends up in the bin or as something totally different…

What a great jacket! I would like to sew one for my own. I have already bought a lovely peace of double face felt for these pattern. But I’m not sure about the right size, Burda patterns are slightly larger. I would like to know which pattern size you have chosen! Lily

Thanks Lilyana. As for the size, I used my usual 38. My bust and waist measurements are 98-73 and I have quite wide shoulders (tend to need to go up in size buying ready made blazers). I won’t be able to fit a thick sweater under it though.
And yes, Burda size table suggests I’m a 40 but it’s too big for me. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more info :)

Great jacket. I like it a lot, the pattern and the fabric. I was thinking of making something like that from fleece but I’m not sure if it’s the right kind of material for this. And it’s not exactly an easy pattern to make.

Thanks for the nice words miinka. Fleece holds well so it’ll probably keep the form if it’s a bit thick…but I think this pattern deserves something nicer, then you can use it on absolutely anything anywhere. The pattern has many pieces and stitches but it’s really straight forward to make. Go for it :)
