It must be love.....

I have called this project “it must be love” because if I hadn’t been sewing it for my boyfriend then I would have thrown it over the balcony a long time ago! It was a month in the making but it was worth it. The fit is perfect and I didn’t have to make any alterations, but I sewn things unpicked them, sewn them again it was a difficult process (hence advanced pattern) but a huge learning curve.

The jacket is fully lined with the functional zip pockets and zips on the sleeves I chose to put the snaps on the outside because I liked the look, and it was all worth it because my boyfriend loves his new spring jacket.

Material Notes

Stretch denim and cotton lining

Great work! I’m currently making it myself (albeit with a few changes to what sort of pockets it has) and I’m totally stuck on the sleeve zips!!! What the heck? SOOOOOOOO confused! Mitre the corners… Which corners? The corners with the 7cm seam allowance??? ACK!

It is so long ago that I made this but I do remember it driving me crazy, especially the instructions. I think I just did my own thing with the sleeve zips and hand stitched the lining around them to hide the horrors underneath. Good luck it is a wonderful jacket when completed, can’t wait to see yours.

Finally finished my version: lot of mistakes but I’m reasonably happy with end result.

Thanks for inspiring me to have a go Beccki!

Now trying to upload the project and link it to this one.

My project (if I can get the upload t work ) will be called "Understated yet flamboyant – mens denim biker jacket "

Just got this pattern to make for my husband – your’s looks fantastic; now I’ve read the instructions I am lost. Advanced it is indeed – I’m used to Simplicity or Vogue patterns which include step by step diagrams alongside the instructions. I made my husband a tailored lined jacket last year but….Aaahhh. A month looks fast work

Yes it was a labour of love, and your right the instructions are unclear, but my boyfriend loves it and its well worth the work, I would say if you get confused first baste the piece try it out and if its not correct have a rethink. I actually ended up hand sewing the lining to the sleeve cuff as i got so lost at that point. I really look forward to seeing your version as it is a great jacket.

Thank you so much Sue, I can’t wait to see your version it is a great jacket, the fit is perfect, the main problem I faced was the front and sleeve zips with the flaps so confusing but so worth it in the end.
