"Iris Garden" Dress

St. Louis, Misso...

I originally made the complete #122 “Cocktail Dress”, but felt the bodice as I sewed it did not match with my bottom half so I picked a Burda #7301 pattern to make a different bodice. I chose a cotton Tiffany stained glass “Fabric Freedom” print for the bottom skirt, which was fun and easy to make. The original bodice seems to run small – my version was made out of hot pink, royal blue, and deep purple cotton sateen, all with black piping in every seam. You can see me wearing it by itself with the edges unfinished…I have to decide what to do with it/how to wear it. My replacement dress bodice from #7301 was made from scraps of cotton knit – it fits me great and was so easy to make, too. I moved the zipper from the center back to the left side under the arm. I love the complimentary shaping and comfort of this dress! Plus, it has lovely iris flowers on it!
