Poncho – Burdastyle 05/2016 #124

I bought a flowy layered maxi dress a few years ago, and people told me it looked like a marquee and wasn’t flattering, so I chopped it up lol. I used most of the indigo overdress to make this poncho, utilizing the interesting chiffon/mesh & applique floral detail for the front. I left part of the sides stitched together (where the dress originally was joined), and added vintage bias binding to the armholes I created. My measuring’s for this pattern differ slightly lol, and something went wrong with the front and back v-neckline (and the fabric tends to expand width wise)- because the top can slip down, so I added two ties to the top back for securing. The original hem I kept, as it was already finished. I always have trouble making neat binding at the point of a v-neck. Location: Apia

Material Notes

woven indigo crinkled chiffon over-dress with mesh & applique floral feature, black cotton tape, black bias binding

Garment Type
Beach, Bohemian, Evening Wear
Chiffon, Lace/Sequins, Tulle

This poncho was delightfully comfortable to wear after taking it on a holiday with a hot climate of around 30degC, it must be the modern lightweight fabric, in combination with the loose airy style of the poncho. even though it had ‘sleeves’ they are wide kimono style, the sides are also wide and loose, and the long v-neckline on the front and back let the air flow, it actually almost made me feel cooler, so pleasing.

The food poisoning I got in Apia wasn’t pleasing though lol, its just so hot there, even ice in my drink melted in one minute! x

I would’ve bought it as well as the fabrics so nice. I look around charity shops and car boot sales as well for things like this ..As long as the fabrics good and the item is large I can alter x
