"I discovered the double needle" Dress

Added May 21, 2013

by camis

Rota, Spain

This pattern is from Patrones no. 314. I was so excited to discover that the double needle is so easy to use, that I used it for all the visible stitches on this dress. The original pattern was very…ruffly, so I skipped the ruffles and accentuated the joining of the front pieces with contrasting thread. Go, double needle!
The fabric is a cotton polyester blend.

After seeing your dress, I don’t think I would want to see it with ruffles. Beautiful!

Looks great :) I was very excited too when I tried the double needle, but then I broke 2 and I am too scared to break one more so I don’t use it anymore… Do you have any tips for not breaking them?

Well, I did break the first one :( Start with needles that are closer together, like 2 mm and test by turning the machine manually and slowly to see if the needle will hit the plate. And use it on lighter fabrics. My machine is nothing fancy so can take up to 4 mm or size 4, but just in straight stitch. Good luck.
