This shirt had a bit of trial and error going on. I found a tutorial on cutoutandkeep.net (link is below), but I was sizing an extra large mens shirt to fit me. While the elastic does automatically take in the shirt a bit, I had to do a bit of tearing out of the elastic and taking in of the shirt and restitching a couple of rows of elastic to keep things up. Definately a learning curve and will try it again another time with some ideas, like taking in the shirt a bit first and adding some little sleeves. I loved stitching the elastic directly onto the fabric to gather it (you stretch the elastic as you are zigzag stitching it onto the fabric). Without having to take in the shirt, it would have been done in no time!

Material Notes

old mens cotton button up shirt
thin elastic (I think about 1/8 inch)

Garment Type

Thanks a lot! I agree with Ichigogirl, except I think I will benefit my daughter and not myself. Age calls for modesty : P

Great remake! Too bad it’s autumn here, but I’ll keep it in mind until spring. I’ve kept a couple of men’s shirts to refashion after seeing other nice shirts remakes here but not gotten round to it yet… Thanks for sharing the link!
