How to save $1500

I saw this skirt in October last year and loved it so saved the photo in my “dresses to knock off and deprive the designer of mega bucks” folder on my computer. I only found out the other day who the designer was.. Alexis Mabille (never heard of you, sorry Alexis). Then I did a search last night and saw how much Alexis would make if I bought a skirt like this. Around $1500 – $2000. EEEK.
it cost me less than $70 Aus using very good quality silks.

I just used a very simple a-line skirt and winged it all. I was a bit disapointed how shabby the original version looked in the screen grab i took and I SHOULD have done a side zip to eliminate dividing the sash into two. It would have looked far better plus saved me around 2 hours trying to align it up perfectly. Just missed out by 2mm.

I am so in love with this, I could never have dreamt of a design like that but glad I managed to piece it together. It really feels like a piece of art.

Material Notes

Gorgeous silk dupon from Tessuti and cotton voile for lining.

So vibrant and striking… you could wear this on a date with me and my ‘out of my comfort zone dress’ – it looks like one-and-the-same cerise silk dupion from tessuti. I’m glad you said ‘how to save’ rather than ‘how to earn’ $1500. What you’re paying for is the physical expression of the designer’s ‘original thought’ and you acknowledge this by saying “I could never have dreamt of a design like that”.

When you make something like this, I think you’re still a little girl at heart

oh and BTW… do you see in the original shot how the model’s hair is half-black/half-brown split down the centre part to match the brown and black in the skirt. Will you be dying your hair half-black/half-pink to wear this little beauty!!??

You’re right, I still do like very girly things. I need to grow up and be more age apropriate.

And yes lets go on a date. I may die my hair half pink and half black, but it will be the hair covered up by my skirt :)

OMG…fortune saved!!! This is a great skirt, don’t worry that it doesn’t look EXACTLY like the designer. This is a Holli ORIGINAL! Agreed with the hot pink with black…too hot!!

What a neat design! I’m a big fan of the “deprive the designer of mega-bucks” design mode (I’ve managed to deprive Laura Ashley and Jessica McClintock of mega-bucks over the years). Nicely done!
