Houndstooth Wool Skirt

Aughnacloy, Unit...

This is a self-drafted skirt I made. Even though it’s quite a simple shape it was my first time trying to make up my own thing so I certainly made a few mistakes along the way, especially when I keep making clothes for someone bigger than me.

Fit is definitely something that I really have to work on. It took me a couple of times altering this to get it to fit. I think I’m just too scared of it being too small and not being able to save it then.

In the photos it looks like it has a waistband attached but it’s actually just interfaced, folded over and slipstitched down. I did want it to have a no waistband look but the fabric is so thick it looks like it has one anyway. The hem is blindstitched by machine to give it a ‘no-hem’ look too. That was a bit more successful in the outcome. Invisible zip at the side and black lining inside to make it feel nice against my skin.

Material Notes

The fabric is a wool houndstooth fabric from Craftswoman Fabrics in Carrickfergus and was a 40cm remnant hence the shortness of the skirt! That was as far as it went.

I know what you mean. Summer in the UK for me is an endless round of waxing/shaving, painting toe nails, other foot care, and smothering on the fake tan!
