Home Sewing is Easy Part II: Hawaii Dress

As a follow-up from my first Home Sewing is Easy dress, I decided to make the sequel fabric in the same pattern (Burdastyle’s Princess Dress with an Emery skirt, elasticated back waist and cap sleeves). It was one of those projects where I had to keep ripping and redoing to get things right – I started with using 12mm store-bought bias binding for the sleeves and neckline, but it was too thick and stiff and distorted the fabric, flipping the neckline out and altering the sleeve shape. So I redid it with homemade bias tape using cotton lawn, which probably was too stretchy and fiddly but it did the job. Otherwise this was constructed in much the same way as the previous dress.

Material Notes

3 yds (2.7m) Alexander Henry Home Sewing is Easy Part II: Hawaii fabric, bought online. White broadcloth scraps, from stash, for pockets. White lawn, from Spotlight, for self-made bias binding.
