High Waisted Houndstooth

Added Feb 26, 2010

by alanagrace

Wellington, New ...

I bought this houndstooth fabric months ago, thinking I’d make some shorts and scoffing when someone suggested trousers. But over the summer holidays the idea grew on me and I ended up making some high waisted ones. Forgetting that the fabric is not stretchy at all I copied my skinny jeans and the pants turned out great…. untill they got so tight that the seams broke and made holes. So I used the leftover fabric and remade parts of them. The cuffs are made to roll up and look super fab with black high heels. Next time I make some high waisted trousers I’ll make sure to remember to leave some room to move and widen the waist band.

I copied a pair of jeans although didnt account for the lack of stretch in this fabric so had to re-cut front pieces

These are lovely. I don’t think I’ll have the guts to make a pair of pants for a while still, but when I do, I’d love to be able to make something like you did. Very elegant. I love the black ribbon belt. They have an Audrey Hepburn quality.

I know i know i love her! I think you should try them. if you have some nice fitted trousers you just need to copy them onto some newsprint or something and decide how high you want them, add that amount to the top and there ya go (plus a waistband if you want them)
