Have You Ever . . . ?

Have you ever used a more expensive fabric for the lining of your dress instead of your main fabric? That’s what I did with this dress! (It will be our little secret, okay). I found this bright and fun rayon that was the perfect fabric for the dress, but the only lining fabric that was suitable for the project was some silk from my stash. Luckily the silk only cost me $5.00 a yard (the rayon was $4.50 a yard). I love the way this dress turned out, it has been so much fun to wear.

Sorry for all of the color variation in the photos, my camera was being weird. The photos on the dress form are the most true to life colors. Also, the photos of the purple fabric is the dress inside out so you can see the pretty lining. It’s a bit wrinkly ‘cause it’s been worn a lot lately.

I love this pattern! It’s Vogue right? I made it in black and white poplin I think:) I love the color of yours! Don’t worry about the expensive lining, it is worth it in the long run. More comfy an a lot cooler then poly. Great job!

Yes, the pattern is Vogue, 1161 – I think. You are right, the expensive lining is worth it, I’ve worn this dress on a few really hot days and am thankful for the cool breathability (especially after wearing a RTW dress with poly lining).

I love that cut-out at the back! And eh, don’t worry about the little secret, I’ve done that several times (although mostly with jackets)

Thanks Lauriana! It’s good to hear I am not the only one to splurge on my lining farbic. I love the idea of a nicely lined jacket, but hope to improve my skills just a bit before diving into that sort of project.
