For this pattern I elimanated the ruffles on the neck-tie. I thought it was too much. I just folded the strap in half and cut it in the middle to make a tie. I also added in the bust, sew in inserts to the inside of the facing of the dress. I felt it needed something to make the top more sturdy. I would also suggest using a piece of interfacing in the bust if you don’t want the inserts.

I used a navy and check eyelet cotton fabric. I love the way this dress has turned out. It has a little bit of the 40’s flair to it. Very fun and easy to make!

Beautiful job! I love the retro vibe! I’m making this now and was wondering what you meant by bust inserts? At the center front? Or along the pleats?

The bust insert are for the breast area. Like the sew in cups instead of wearing a bra.

Yup, eliminating the awful ruffle around the collar was brilliant!

Kalinah you did a very nice job of this. The dress looks beautiful on you, and I like your decision to remove the ruffle.

Looks awesome! I was thinking about doing the same, that ruffle is unwearable. But without it the dress is the cutest thing ever!
