Halloween 2010 - Grace Kelly

From Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window.

Grace Kelly plays the classy Lisa Carol Freemont, whose first appearance in the film is in this gorgeous Paris dress. Her wardrobe through the film is stunning, but I decided to have a go at this particular one, as it’s most likely the most recognizable look.

No patterns used. My skirt is about half the diameter, but it’s enough of a nuisance to get around the house. I can only imagine the trouble it’d be if it was the full size. I also cut corners on the black branches. It was hard to tell how they were done for the film, so I cheated and just drew them on with a sharpie. Other than that, I’m really happy with the way it turned out.

Thanks to BerlinHairBaby on YouTube for the wonderful Grace Kelly hair tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yagOyHrkE3I

How come Gracie’s dress seems wider ? puffier ? Is there something that is suppose to go underneath ?

Believe it or not I do have a petticoat underneath. Grace’s is still twice the width of mine, but I just didn’t have enough fabric to make mine that huge.

    Nice one!

I think the original decorations on the skirt were hand embroidered. Sharpie sounds good for Halloween! :D Love a good cheat…
