Guilty conscience appeased

I had the Amy Butler fabric for this bag for months. It was intended as a sort of birthday/wedding present… only, it took me so long to finally make it that I am out by nearly a year – and I feel awful about it. Let’s hope it won’t take me another year to post it…

When I started sewing, I wasn’t quite sure if the bag would look extremely busy with the three different patterns, but I think it turned out ok as you can’t really see the inside fabric.

The bag is lined with vlieseline(?) to give it the strength to stand up for itself ;-) It has two inner pockets and a ribbon with a small carabine to hook up a key ring. The Boxy pouch (http://threebears.wordpress.com/2007/10/15/little-boxy-pouch-tutorial/) is rather wonky due to the fact that I am rubbish at sewing in zips. It was intended as a pencil case, but turned out too short. Oh well… next time, I will measure and calculate.

This bag is WONDERFUL!!! You finished it so well. I also love Amy Butler fabrics. She has great patters as well. All of your projects are truly wonderful and impressive for a “novice”! Upgrade your status with freedom, you’re a wonderful creator!

This is nicely done, congrats! Awesome fabrics selections and i like the fact that it can sit on its own. It’s difficult to find the stabilizer here :(

Hi there, thanks a lot! I didn’t use any pattern (too impatient, I usually cut and sew before I think ;-) for once, it worked fine). It is a simple case of cutting two rectangular pieces, one for the lining, one for the outside, folding each in the middle and stitching the sides, and sewing off the corners at the bottom. The same sort of technique the boxy pouch is made of. In the end, the lining and the outside are stitched together. I am sure there are good tutorials out there.

How lovely! I love all the fabrics I think they all fit together nicely. What pattern did you use for the bag?
