Green Origami Butterfly Skirt

Added Mar 19, 2010

Ellensburg, Wash...

This skirt was made just so I could practice mking fabric oragami shapes. I chose to make a butterfly because they were flat and had a distinct shape. I used the whole of one yard of green fabric and some leftover brown taffeta for the waistband. You can’t see it, but there is a large brown butterfly center back on the waistband. The front looks like pockets, but each corner and the center is tacked down, so they are not functional. Overall, and easy project that turned out simple, yet sweet. I hope to incorporate more oragmi designs in future garments, I have oodles of sketches in my notebook!

This garment was also a part of the student photoshoot with my “Pink and Lace Remnant Skirt”, “Olivia in Wonderland” and “Fountain of Youth” projects. Again, it was all student designed and run, and super fun! The theme of this grouping was “Robin Hood”, though it may not be super obvious.

Material Notes

Green cotton, brown taffeta

Garment Type
Cotton, Taffeta

I love the skirt and the whole outfit. The photos are beautiful too. Did you make the other outfits as well? They’re quite lovely.

No, I only made the skirt. The other two were made by two different designers. The gal who made the floral dress with the black lace is actually a finalist for the Comcast Student Design competition and will be showing a collection at Seattle Fashion Week!

OH I love it! It looks so chic and I adore the pairing of the brown taffeta with the skirt. Gorgeous! Lovely fun photos too.

Good choice of colours. The green looks great! The brown waistband goes well with it
