First of Many Shirts

Sacramento, Cali...

I’ve never sewn for my son before. He just turned 13 and I started sewing seriously just as he started gaining an affection for expensive labels and developed a hypersensitive issue with his self image. Ugh, junior high!

I also had a problem finding trendy patterns for his size. Not a child size yet not a man’s size. He had a few growth spurts and voila, I finally had something to work with. I made the size small and it fits great. This pattern comes in just small, medium, and large.

Anyway he LOVES this shirt. I’ll have to make him another for school however as this is not in the uniform colors.

The pattern is McCalls 6044. Pretty straight forward although setting in the sleeves gave me the blues. I eventually worked through it.

LOL. Well the first time they see a camera is when they exit the womb. Just keep sticking in their faces and they learn to go with the flow.

I love this shirt and I agree 100% on trying to find fashionable boys patterns, almost impossible. I have noticed that vintage boys patterns are a little more detailed than the new ones, although a little hard to find. I have quite a collection of boys patterns from the 40’s through to the 60’s but no little boys to sew for.

I’ve looked through the vintage patterns before and havent quite found anything that I think would work. I’m also nervous about the instructions.

That is one very classy shirt – it looks beautifully made, and he looks very handsome in it.

Yeah I know how it is. I started @ the age of 9. But my mom and sister did not want to make men clothes. So they taught me and the rest is history…:) You did a wonderful job
