Faux Leather Corasage

I made it out of the huge leftover I had after finishing my fur vest. If I wouldn’t have made a musseline to test the pattern I drafted, I would have ran amok. [No, it wasn’t that bad, just joking ;) If I’m not sure about the pattern or drafted a new one, I’m always testing it first on some bedsheets – saftey first ;)]
It’s made out of 14 pieces (the middle ones are folded) and I wanted to have a ‘waistband’, which caused the most pattern trouble. It closes with a zipper at the back – a nice change :)
Another problem I had was my bust…I had to stitch two points of the neckline together, otherwise it wouldn’t have followed my body. But that’s no big deal, I think.

Material Notes

faux leather, zipper, bedsheet

Wow!

I love where you put the waist—not too high to be empire, but high enough to be totally flattering. . .

Interesting piece. And quite a challenge to sew iy in faux leather.

Just a question: Did you use any kind of book or tutorial to draft the pattern? I’m asking because the pattern seems to be more angular than most made following any specific method. And pattern tutorials usually make you anticipate that bust shape issue you had. I see you’re from Austria, so you probably know this already, but on http://www.natronundsoda.net/main.html you can find a lot of tutorials in German.

      Yeah, I know natron & soda, it’s a really great thing :)
No, I didn’t use anything, except simple mathematics and a lot of trial… I divided the measures by 14, then subtracted the width of the waistband and the 2 trimmings. I left the lower parts the same height and fitted the upper parts untill they were like I wanted them. The issue with the neckline was mostly because I didn’t think of the different measurements, so just stupidity ;)
