I feel like the most impressive thing about this dress is the fabric.

I wish Burda would say where they sourced their fabric from.

Am I the only one who has a problem with the name Fatina? Come on! You are in NY after all.

Fatina means “charming and seductive”. Not sure why that would be a problem.

Umm – this is just a shift dress, and not a very tailored one at that – can’t see why this would be considered a formal dress. Dissapointing : (

I love how the style of dress can be worn for many occastions but unfortunatley i reaaalllly hate how the dress comes around chest. I think it really unflattering.

Wish I could help you with the fabric, Aimee. Alas I am in New York and you are in London. If you ever get over here, there are tons of fabric shops between 7th and 8th avenues and between 39th and 35th St.

Nice simplicity, darts are a bit too linear for my eye but easy to curve slightly.

Also, may I bring up the skill of grading patterns? That’s where a medium size is created and all sizes are made from that using “grading rules” to add so much here and there as the size goes up or down from medium.

For those people normally beyond the sizes patterns come in, you might spend some time on your own rules to expand or contract a standard pattern size to fit your measurements.

This is relatively easy to do, taking time more than some special skill if you’re only doing one and then you have a set of rules to apply to almost any pattern to get your size, and typically a much better fit.

      hi timallard,

thanks for your idea about grading patterns.
I’m wondering where I could find more information on personalizing a pattern to my measures.

not neccesarily, but something in German would be helpful too :-))

      bye bye

Very, very pretty fabric! Love the dress as well, but the fabric just really does it for me!

I have to agree with Zora about the cost. This dress is ALL about the fabric, the pattern is just about as basic as you can get, there’s hardly even any shaping to it, I could draft one up from scratch in about 1/2 hr. I would be surprised if there was not a New Look pattern that was just about the same – and you can get those on sale for $0.99 – and not have to print it out yourself and tape it all together.

I will happily spend the $6 for an immaculately styled and drafted Vogue pattern on sale instead.

Simply stunning! Compared the what patterns in the store are – unless you have a coupon – $4 is more than reasonable

The sleeveless version is stunning, rather inspirational. Also, I think $4 for such a versatile pattern, beautifully styled and detailed photos and all the rest is perfectly reasonable. Thank you Burdastyle!

It’s a Liberty tana lawn print of the so-called ‘fashion range’. of about 2006-2007 season. I actually own the very fabric in the very same colour, but I can’t remember the name of the print… sorry! I guess you might try ebay or other auction sites.

$4 is too much?! that’s madness.

i LOVE this dress … what a great basic piece. plus it would be really simple to make alterations to the pattern for MANY different design variations. i can’t wait to play with it, and see what others make.

thanks for another GREAT pattern burdastyle!

Neat & stylish design with an exotic touch. Probably looks cool in pale grey Shantung, for a special evening. In my opinion, shoes & handbag have to match with the dress colour, if you want to look classy… unless you want to make a big contrast. And please, never ever use those awful socks! Socks are great only in tennis or running shoes :o)

I really like the dress and I also wouldn’t mind paying 4 dollars for it. Is that really so much money? I don’t think so!

I like the simple lines and classic style. Is there a slit or a kick pleat in the back?

I have to agree with Zora that 4$ for a pattern is too much specially when you have to download an print it. IF you take to the store this only adds to the work on your part. YOu can get patterns on sale for less than the price of yours and all you have to do is cut them> Too bad, the dress is nice not the price Jimena

I just made a shift dress, but since I was doing it from scratch the skirt isn’t the right shape…it would’ve been so much easier with this pattern. Can’t wait to try it! =]

Thanks for all your comments! Yes, that is piping around the collar and the neckline. We made it ourselves. I am checking for a how to on that right now and will connect it if found.
