eyelet project no. 1

Added Dec 25, 2016

by chula123

Great Yarmouth, ...

I saw a blouse in a shop with some eyelets in the top front and a necklace through it which appealed to me and I knew that would be my next project. Found a pattern in my stash that fitted the bill (omitted the keyhole) even had some eyelets and this is the result. don’t know what the fabric is. looks like suede, but has a different feel than suede.

thanks nadia! yes, an eyelet contraption does help, I got mine stuck in the chopping board I banged so hard with the hammer :-)) so, hopefully that means they won’t fall out , hihihi

I love this, Chula. The necklace is similar to one I bought in Zara recently and to make it integral with the top is a great idea!

thank you very much Teeny. I had to buy a necklace, didn’t have one long enough, but as sales are one, I got a few in gold and silver :-))

This is great. I’m into making corsets right now and eyelets are my nmemesis!! I’ve ordered a new setting tool / dye to see if I can improve that. How did you set yours? Did you use a hammer and dye or do you have a hand tool? The top is a great idea too.

oh dear…… I have to admit Lindsay that I have no idea what a dye is?? In my stash of endless bits and bobs, I came across a tool (looks like a plier) which I used to make a hole in the fabric (which was the most tricky part) and then I used another bit that actually came in the box with the eyelets and used a hammer to bang it in. I’ll take a picture of all the bits and piece that were involved and download them so you can have a look. hope that helps :-)

Thanks Chula! The ‘bit’ that you got with the box of eyelets may well be the ‘dye’ (or actually that may well be ‘die’ now I think about it!). It’s a little thing that fits a specific size of eyelet so that when you hammer it it closes the eyelet. I have one but I think it is for ones that don’t have the extra little washer on the back you see. I have one of those hole punch things and I agree – very tough on the hands and wrists!!
