The pattern is actually from Burda Magazine’s issue from March 2011 – sadly there’s no matching record in the US site hence I couldn’t redirect it. Please check out the German url, for the actual pattern.

It’s #148 with the applique sleeping bag made out of poplin. I made so many modifications despite it looking the same. Firstly, I used cotton quilting wadding for warm insulation. I pre-washed it on the hand wash program of the washing machine as I didn’t like the authentic look of crinkly quilts. Secondly, I liked the idea of framing the custom size zip with bias binding. I used an existing shop-bought sleeping bag for that idea, and after a few trials, I managed to construct it as I had imagined. I also sewed an inner flap to cover the inside of the zip tape. I added another small flap on top of the zip puller to secure it, fastening with velcro. As a graphic designer, I loved sketching the applique lowercase e :-) It is a remnant piece from coloured denim, incidentally matching the colour palette of the hexagonal print poplin.

Lastly, the winceyette lining with quilted cotton wadding gives a lovely warmth as well as breathing and regulating the temperature of baby. I thought I was taking a risk using natural fibres but I am so glad I did because it’s superior to polyester in my opinion.

Hopefully my little one will have peaceful warm nights sleeping in it. :-)
