Emma's Roses

Durban, South Af...

A while ago I saw a beautiful Ralph Lauren dress (for a not so beautiful price) in a little shop selling pretty toddler clothes. I searched for a similar pattern with a yoke but couldn’t find one, until a public holiday recently when I came across McCalls M6007 and quickly bought it and printed it out on our home computer – I LOVE the digital age we live in!!! I got to work with one of the many pieces of fabric I have bought for our daughter Emma who will be 2 in April (but I’m ashamed to admit – this is the first item of clothing I’ve made for her). I cut a size 2 which looked a little big, and then cut it down to size 1, but even had to take that in a good few cm’s on the sides. If someone could shed light on toddlers pattern sizes I would be grateful!!! because these sizes were HUGE! The dress went together nicely and I then sewed strips of fabric together and hand sewed them on to create 3 roses at the bottom (I can’t take credit – Ralph Lauren’s idea!). The hand sewing took the longest but I don’t think it could have been easily done with the machine. Emma wore her dress on Christmas Eve mass and on Christmas day when she had such fun running in the garden catching bubbles :-)

She looks adorable in that dress. My daughter is going to be two April 11th. So far I’ve only made 1 dress for her. Planning on making another for her birthday

I think that size 1/2 (half) is about equal to 12 month. I haven’t done much sewing for toddlers (I have a boy… I wish boys were more fun to sew for). But I’m not sure if size 1 is like 18 month or if it’s like 2T.

I love this dress. it’s adorable. Reminds me of the clothes I wore in the 80s as a toddler. :)

lovely!!! the sizes can be tricky. I still sew an apron top for my tall 4 1/2 yr old using a baby pattern :D.
