This empire line dress has saved my life so many times! The dress is a basic ally a shift with a deep V neck. I have made this dress for many different uses. This version is my favourite. I purchased some embroidered silk organza which was easier to work with than I expected. I re-drew the pattern pieces so I could cut out the organza as a single layer, placing the uneven hem edge in a manner pleasing to the eye. The deep V was to revealing for Church, so I strategically placed left over organza flowers along the neckline. I used french seams in the construction of the dress.

Material Notes

Organza with a silk/polyester mix lining.

I agree that sometimes an expensive fabric is worth it — the times that I have opted for silk or somthing like, I ended up wearing it more often, and it became a classic in my own closet — one can never complain when that happens!

Hello! I am sure you could. The basic pattern is very flattering to all body shapes and it can be made up in most woven fabrics. The ochoice of fabrics is what makes this dress so special. Have a go! I think the pattern is a New Look pattern. Happy Sewing!
