Description

Many different inspirations for this dress… I liked the 40 houndstooth dress by olystyrene, I’ve been wanting to make a peplum dress for ages, and a bib too, and finally I saw that French movie which takes place in the 70s, “Potiche”, where the secretary wears beautiful and sexy dresses… (last picture, only shot I found).

And I had that fabric. So I thought : why not?

I made the top pattern using gedwoods technique, and the fit isn’t too bad (I should make it again to improve it but it takes so long…), I used a basic pencil skirt pattern for the skirt. I drafted the collar and the bib, and used a circle of fabric to make the peplum.

I added the lace from one of my great grandmother nightgowns… I promised myself I would use all the lace she had!

While making it, I thought it was maybe “too much”, but then I showed it to my parents and they loved it! They wanted me to wear it for Christmas, so I finished it in a rush… And the skirt’s slit cracked just at the end of the dinner! (But yes, I repaired it ^^)

So, finally, I think I’ll wear it on formal-but-not-too-formal occasions, like oral exams or something :)

Material Notes

It was written “Unknown composition” !!! Gingham, lace, invisible zipper.
