Denim wintercoat

Amsterdam, Nethe...

This is the first serious coat i ever made. The outside is made from denim, the lining is tartan wool on which I ironed thick isolating interfacing. The pockets and cuffs are lined with normal lining. The pattern comes from an old Burdamagazine (don’t know which one anymore). I copied it years ago already, it was designed by a burda reader. It took me weeks to work on this coat, but I’m happy with the result!

thanks and also for the info on the pattern. It’s not as long ago as I thought, but the paper pattern still waited for 4 years to be put to use, lol.

Great choice of a unique older pattern. The construction looks very well done. I love it.

Gorgeous coat! Just my kind of style. Your ideas for the warm lining are inspiring too. I’d like to try that. Have you had the opportunity (if that’s the right word! ;-) ) to test how warm the coat is?

Thanks, and yes, winter never stopped here in Holland until may this year, so, i’ve been wearing this coat the whole time. In the middle of the winter when it was -10C it was not warm enough, but every temperature until a little bit freezing, it was quite comfortable. I wore it with a thick big crocheted scarf.

Excellent…maybe something similar would help me in the spring and autumn chill here in Scotland.

What was the name of thermal interfacing you used? Was it fusible interfacing that you attached to the denim fabric?

Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been away for a little bit.. I don’t know the exact name of that interfacing, but it’s from “Vlieseline”. It is fusible, it has a diamondlike pattern on one side which melts on the fabric you iron it on. I didn’t iron it to the denim though, I ironed it to the lining and to the lining parts of the denim.

the only thing i can say is what i already said, hopefully Badyan can give u the number of the burdy issue. I used the original pattern, the only thing i altered was to make the sleeves wider, cause they were very slim and i used thick interfacing, so, had to make that fit..

Dank, jouw victoriaanse lingerie is anders ook niet mis. Hoe maak je zoiets? Met een patroon, of heb je een how-to?
