Dark Side of the Moon

Brooklyn, New Yo...

This project is based on the Full Moon top from Tomoko Nakamichi’s book, Pattern Magic Stretch Fabrics.

I used a plisse fabric, which I thought might add an interesting dimension to the piece, which is essentially a bubble top. It’s difficult to capture the top’s construction with these photos, but imagine a moon tilting on its axis. The “equator” actually stretches diagonally around the top.

Next time I would also fiddle with the placement of the neck and arm holes. Overall, it was a fun first-time Pattern Magic project. I’m looking forward to more experimentation with these books!

I love her books, but wow are those projects a lot of work. You’ve really pulled this off, and the material really adds to the shape.

Thank you so much! I must admit, I was nervous working with this fabric, but it was one of those cool fabrics just waiting to be freed from my stash. And this was definitely one of the less intimidating projects from her book :)
