Dairy Milk Jacket

As my final project for my City & Guilds level 3 Fashion Wear course I had to make a jacket, so I decided to combine this with the textile ‘design element’ project and make myself a corduroy jacket, since I’ve always loved them but not found one that I liked the fit, style & colour of since I was teenager!

A while ago I found some purple corduroy, which was advertised as ‘Cadbury Purple’ as apparently it was the same shade of purple as the dairy milk chocolate bar wrappers are! Also purple is my favourite colour, so it was no-brainer! Remembering about this I decided to make the jacket using this corduroy and so came the nickname – the Dairy Milk Jacket!

Anyway, in my course, as it’s at level 3 you are not allowed to use any commercial patterns, so this has been a very big challenge for me, as just to add to the difficulty level – I’ve never made a jacket before! Also I’ve never made anything more complicated than a skirt that is lined! The jacket has to be fully lined, with at least one pocket and fully designed and the pattern drafted myself!

Material Notes

Cow print satin lining,
Specialist jacket interfacing
Vintage buttons
