Crochet beasts

Sitting in the quiet time while the kids sleep, at work…. a lot of time and it is peaceful to sit with something keeping your fingers busy. Also the early shift is boring as hell and thats also a good time to carry on making little bits and pieces. The kids will get thier paws on them when I have made a few more.

At the moment I have rather a good cat emerging. I don’t follow any instructions… I just feel how it should turn out and see a finished idea in my head. I think I should try make them a little bigger! The mouse-like-elephant was first- startled and surprised at being made, then the octopus. They are a little smaller than an apple.

I also made a small flower and sewed around the edges to give it definition and added some beads. I just need to crochet a nice chain or maybe elastic for the wrist? I haven’t worked that out yet.

Material Notes

Crochet cottons (is that right??) and some beads, and left over buttons kicking about the kindergarten. No, I didn’t just nip them off the clothes of the kids but it’s not a bad idea. Oh, and some scrap material for the elephants ear I sewed on just for a nice touch.

That’s good to know. I knit for awhile until I had to unravel a sweater I had been working on for days. I was so upset that my husband banned me from knitting again!

Oh no!! Thats awful!! I think maybe the best thing is to start on small things and then make bigger! I made for a long while lots of knitting squares- I am too chicken to try a jumper but I think I might be tempted with crochet one!! It just somehow flows but I would need to be far more organised and keep track of my stitches!
      Try crochet- really satifying! =)

Just start making some loops with the crochet hook and build! I find the best shape to start with is a circle… you can make a tube or a trunk and then work down… It is very easy!! =)

These are so cute! I wish I knew how to crochet. No pattern? That’s quite remarkable.

Crochet is easier than knitting… if you drop the crochet hook (Or some nosey and inquisitive dwarf decides to play with it) it is easy to put back in and carry on! or if you want to unravel something it is easy as pie. All you need to start with is a slip knot… Honestly easy! Give it a go. A little frastrating learning to keep the tension even but its not impossible. Start with making a small purse. I love it for its flexibity… and I am still learning. What I have made is very simple stuff. No change in stiches and no change of colour!
