Description

Burda Style 02/11 #116. It called for thick fabric like gabardine, but I thought it would be a good pattern for this fabric. It kinda worked. See my blog for a better description of the difficulties the fabric caused.

This was my favorite version because the fabric choice was so interesting. It is a simple basic dress design and appealing for the ease of wearing. After seeing your finished garment, I want to make this and have a really pretty fabric in mind that would be perfect. Good work.

Its cute. Too bad it gave you so much trouble. I am in the middle of trying to make this dress for myself. Thank you for posting on your blog about it. Wish I read the post before I started. I chose a men’s shirting fabric and am beginning to wonder if it was a good choice. I like your dress.

I’ve seen some super fine gabardines recently, and I got the impression that the dress in the magazine was made from a thinner variety. It’s cute in this satin.

The instructions say, “dress fabrics with some body,” and I think this worked… the only part I’m not satisfied with are the arm cuffs, which didn’t really line up well and don’t sit flat. Sewing the elastic casing straight on this fabric was also difficult because the fabric was so slippery and the print didn’t have a clear pattern to follow in a straight line—that would have been a problem regardless of what I made out of the fabric, so it’s ok :)
