Cowl neck Lydia

This is a really great basic knit tee pattern, and hopefully one that will become the basis for all my tee sewing if I get the fit right. Typical Burda sizing meant I had to cut 4 sizes down from my recommended size, with no added seam allowance, to get a good fit! (Thanks Burda.) However, this left the arm seam a little too far in on my shoulder, so I’ll bring it out 1cm or so next time. Otherwise, I feel it’s a pretty good fit for a first try.

To make the cowl neck, measured around the neck seam line, added seam allowances on either side, and made a rectangle of this measurement (77cm) by 30cm. I then seamed the rectangle to create a loop, folded this in half, and stitched both layers to the neck, right side together. I then topstitched the seam allowances down around the neckline to keep in place. (The neck was scooped out a bit more than in the original pattern to accommodate the cowl.) It is also a few centimetres longer in the torso.

This fabric is a beautiful organic cotton jersey and is so snuggly with the cowl neck! I can see many more Lydias in my future.

Material Notes
