Cotton Sateen Gym Shorts

I saw all the darling Gym Shorts patterns in the 06/2014 Burda mag, and I knew I had to make one of them. Well in the end I decided to mash up a few different versions into one so that I could make a pair of this amazing bright blue cotton sateen I bought from Fabric Mart a few months ago. I liked the Drawstring Gym Shorts 06/2014 #116A but I knew that I wanted them to be a regular hem and without a drawstring, so that is what I sewed up. I had read about the gym shorts mash up that MegH blogged about (here: http://www.burdastyle.com/blog/pattern-reveal-june-issue) and decided that I would sew them up in time to be part of the mash up. So here they are, my “dressy” cotton sateen gym shorts. I have already worn them twice and am bringing them with me on an upcoming trip, so it is safe to say I love them.

I do want to point out that the pattern does run large. I may have been able to sew them up in the 40 instead of the 42. I also despise gathering for this waistband, I feel like it left the shorts a bit crafty looking. I think I will just make the waistband bigger and let the elastic do the gathering for me, rather than gathering and then having elastic gathering on top of it. Bleh!

I don’t think the waistband looks bad at all, and I really like the job you did with these shorts!

PS; I am here from PR.

Your version looks great! I love that blue cotton satin and, I hope you don’t mind me saying, the way it compliments your skin.

I am usually a size 40 in Burda but I sew this pants combining a size 38 for the crotch and back seams and 34 on the leg seams… And they are still huge! This pattern does run large, indeed!!!!
